Effective today, BuilderPort Technologies, Inc. has changed its corporate name to Copper Range Inc. The BuilderPort Technologies name will be retained for the time being and will now refer to a division of Copper Range that will maintain its focus on providing solutions to problems that exist in the construction industry. "Our main motivation in changing the corporate name was that eventually we intend to expand our business beyond just the construction industry and we felt that 'BuilderPort' did not adequately reflect this broader focus," said Randall Ray, Co-Founder and CEO of Copper Range Inc.
The Copper Range name was selected for a variety of reasons. Chief among them said Mr. Ray was that the corporation wanted a moniker that reflected its Michigan roots. Copper Range Inc. is incorporated in the state of Michigan and both Mr. Ray and Dr. Peter Kochevar, Co-Founder and CTO of Copper Range Inc., were born and raised in Michigan. The Copper Range is an area of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan that was the leading producer of copper in the world from the mid-1800's until the early 1900's. "My grandfather worked in the Red Jacket Shaft copper mine in the heart of the Copper Range at the height of the copper boom," said Dr. Kochevar, "so 'Copper Range' has special meaning for me."
Copper Range was also the name of a railroad that serviced the copper mining region of Michigan. "That connection is particularly fitting," said Dr. Kochevar, "since the Internet factors into most of the solutions we provide to our customers and railroads were kind of the Internet of their day in how they dramatically altered the way people lived, worked, and shopped." Mr. Ray added that the term 'copper' in the new corporate name is often associated with wires and communication, and Copper Range Inc. is substantially about applying emerging communications technologies to solve customers' problems. Furthermore, the term 'range' suggests the idea of a mountain range, which connotes both majesty and stability; qualities that Copper Range Inc. seeks to project.
The BuilderPort name will be phased out during the course of the year. In the meantime, customers may continue to access BuilderPort's services via the same www.BuilderPort.com Web site that they have been using, or they may now use the new www.CopperRange.com Web site.
